George Kalamaras is the former Poet Laureate of Indiana

George Kalamaras, Poet Laureate of Indiana, has published six books of poetry and one of scholarship including Kingdom of Throat-Stuck Luck, winner of the Elixir Press Poetry Contest, The Recumbent Galaxy, co-authored with Alvaro Cardona-Hine and winner of the C&R Press Open Competition, and The Theory and Function of Mangoes, winner of the Four Way Books Intro Series; six poetry chapbooks; and numerous poems in anthologies and magazines. A long-time practitioner of yogic meditation, Kalamaras received an Indo-U.S. Advanced Research Fellowship in 1994 to conduct research in India. He is the recipient of a 1993 NEA Fellowship in Poetry and has twice received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Indiana Arts Commission. He lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with his wife, the writer Mary Ann Cain, and their beagle Bootsie. He is Professor of English at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, where he has taught since 1990.
